Back Pack Buddies
The Junior League of the Golden Isles sees food insecurity among our children as a serious barrier to education success. The USDA estimates that nearly 13 million children in the United States live in food-insecure households as of 2016. That means that 1 in 6 children (18%) may not have consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Lack of sufficient food to nourish the body and brain can lead to poorer performance in class and increased anxiety, hyperactivity and aggression. In an effort to help combat food insecurity among the children of Glynn County, the JLGI supports the Back Pack Buddies program by sponsoring the food and weekly bag packing to provide weekend meals for students in need at Glynn County Schools.
